Random Thoughts #42

--Ah, Columbus Day. I love how we completely bastardize the history of our celebrated leaders. I wonder how many Americans really appreciate the fact that Columbus was a gold-grubbing scavenger whose most notable contribution to the Americas was disease and slavery. Or that Mr. Big Shot explorer went to his grave thinking he had found Japan. Hell, I'd be willing to bet most Americans think Columbus landed on Plymouth rock. Now go enjoy your day off.

--The red head continues to stalk me after I made it crystal clear I had no interest in seeing or hearing from him again. Text messages, blog comments, e-mails begging me in all caps to please just talk to him and instant messages still keep coming. Hopefully he realizes soon that he's only making it worse each time he tries to contact me. I'd be happy to entertain creative, yet proven ways to stop this behavior.

--I'm moderately curious about switching to the new Blogger version that's out. However, I am tremendously fearful of the phrase "cannot revert back" if something should go wrong. Anyone have any luck with it yet?

--I'm totally losing weight, and I contribute it to working from home. I never eat fast food anymore, and tend to graze throughout the day rather than stuff my pie hole three or four times a day. Pretty soon I'll be able to get back into my prom dress.

--Speaking of working from home, I think I'm going to need to get a new office/desk set up. My workspace now consists of a desk with open shelving (messy), a printer on the floor (ugly), and a TV tray (trashy) to support my desktop, personal laptop and work laptop. So far it's having a severe impact on my back since I sit here like Jaba the Hut in the lotus position. I'm considering having California Closets out to do me up right with a little custom job. I hate all that OfficeMax pressed particle-board stuff.

--You think if I went to the office and brought home my Herman Miller chair (with every intent to return it if I left the company) that they'd mind? I tend to think it feels like stealing; however, a couple of my colleagues do not. I suspect that if I asked beforehand that they'd say no. "Because Dave, if we do it for you, we'd have to do it for everyone." Grrr.

--Today, a visit with the orthopedist is scheduled. Watch for a time-lapse video of the amputation soon.

Everyone knows Columbus sailed the Nina, Pinto, and Santa Ana and landed at the Statue of Liberty, where he met Paul Revere who was hanging 2 lights out the top of her torch (2 if by sea). Then he got out and said "1 small step for man, 1 giant leap for mankind."

But of course, he said it in Spanish.

And yeah, good luck getting rid of the red-head. If he's anything like me, he won't stop until you pull out the restraining order.

Dave you don't look very Indian to me, so if it wouldn't be for Columbus you wouldn't be here. And just FYI ... Europeans had no knowledge of Japan till 1542 (50 years after Columbus' first voyage) when Portugese arrived in Nagasaki. So Columbus was hoping he reached India, not Land of Rising Sun. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember from history class.

Check out office furniture from IKEA, since you were complaining that money tree that grows in your backyard is drying up, inexpensive easy to assemble pseudo-Euro stuff is right up your alley.

What did this guy do that was so bad just to drop him? I am sure it is some typical gay BS that several of the bloggers (if not all) have dealt with. Maybe then we can give more appropriate and effective advise on flushing him down the drain permanently.

I think anonymous #1 is the redhead. As for getting rid of the stalking, maybe if he knew that you were going to be posting his picture and real name on your website he might leave you alone. I think you said he was a realtor. Reputaion means a lot in the real estate business.

Re: Columbus--I was typing this post as I was watching the Discovery Channel documentary on Columbus' life. The phrase "went to his grave thinking he found Japan" was a direct quote. Course, what the hell do they know, they're not even 100% sure where he was born, or what religion he was, so it's unlikely that we'll ever know what he was thinking.

Re: Anonymous Commenter always correcting me--Don't you have anything better to do? No one likes to be corrected, especially publicly (at least I don't), so take a lesson in social graces and learn to criticise in private (or not at all). I'm pulling for the latter.

Redheads = evil. Personal experience.

Anyhoo, if switching to the new blogger, don't do it if you haven't written down all your links. You can "sort of" switch back, but you are really just in limbo. Commenting in other blogs (who haven't switched) you will be BB (bloggerbeta)and it will require additional steps, but your site will "look" the same. Until you take the plunge.

And no, I haven't taken the plunge. I am living life la vida limbo.

The few redheaded guys I have known have been nothing but trouble and even more sadly are usually unattractive and do not seem to realize it. Just the unavoidable truth seems like.

Thanks. It's to distract from my hideously disfigured features.
